The Rhosllannerchrugog War Memorial commemorates those local people who died in two world wars and civilians killed in the bombing of the village in World War II.
The village and community of Rhosllannerchrugog lies in a former heavily industrialised area in the County Borough of Wrexham. The community also contains the villages of Ponciau, Johnstown and Pant. Until 1974, Rhosllannerchrugog was in the historic county of Denbighshire and, from 1974 to 1996, in the county of Clwyd.
The memorial, of a soldier in white marble, stands in the Memorial Gardens, on Hill Street and was unveiled in a ceremony which took place on 1 Jan 1925.

Civilian Casualties
In the early hours of 30th August, 1940, German bombers were flying over Rhosllannerchrugog, heading for their target of Liverpool. This was a regular event and, when the
air-raid sirens sounded, the people of Rhosllannerchrugog would take cover.
The local Home Guard often used diversionary tactics in an attempt to trick the German bombers
into releasing their bombs over the uninhabited Ruabon Moors, and many bomb craters can still be seen on the moors today.
On that August night in 1940 the Home Guard appear
to have succeeded, however, one of those bombs landed not on the mountain but on Osborne Street in Rhosllannerchrugog.
The bomb landed at about 1 a.m. but,
initially, failed to explode. Despite having an unexploded bomb in the street the locals carried on as normal. However, at about 8:20 a.m., the bomb exploded causing severe
damage and the loss of seven lives.
