North Wales BMD
The North Wales BMD is an index to births, marriages and deaths throughout the north of Wales, not just the Clwyd region!
It covers the historic counties of Anglesey, Caernarfonshire, Merionethshire, Montgomeryshire, Denbighshire and Flintshire; and the modern counties of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Wrexham and parts of Powys.
The information has been provided by the local Register Offices, which hold the original records of births, marriages and deaths, back to the start of civil registration in 1837.
For the purposes of registering Births, Marriages and Deaths, the country was divided into a number of Registrars' Sub-Districts, which could cover anything from part of a large town, up to a group of several rural parishes. The boundaries of these areas have changed frequently over the years since 1837, and as a result, many birth, marriage and death records have been transferred between different Register Offices.
The data has been transcribed by local Family History Societies, in collaboration with the local registration services, to make the indexes to these records freely searchable on-line.
Although the indexes are not yet complete for all years and districts, we hope that the database will eventually cover all births, marriages and deaths from 1837.
These indexes can be searched and the references obtained can be used
to order BMD Certificates from the
local Register Office.
