BOOKSTALL - MAPS

To help you with your research, the Clwyd FHS Bookstall sells a wide range of historic local maps from The Godfrey Edition series.

These popular 15 inch to the mile maps are extremely detailed, showing individual houses and farms with details such as railway tracks, pathways, rivers, pubs, factories, schools, etc..

The Bookstall is open at all Clwyd FHS meetings but the maps can also be ordered by post.

Map of Bagillt 1909

This very detailed map is double-sided for maximum coverage. The main map covers most of Bagillt, stretching along the main road, with coverage stretching from Dee Bank and Pentre Bach SE to St. Mary's church. Features include Pentre Bagillt area, Pentre Isaf area, St. Mary's church, railway with station, Bettisfield Colliery with railway sidings, Lead & Blende Dressing Sheds, Lead and Iron Works, Down Hill area, Merllyn, saltings, Panton Cop with disused tramway, etc. On the reverse we include part of adjacent sheet 06.10 extending coverage westward to include Boot, Wal-wen, New Brighton, Whelston, Twll Farm.

This detailed map covers the northern part of Colwyn Bay, with coverage stretching from Penrhyn Road westward to Bryn Euryn and Bron-y-nant, and northward to Rhos Road. Features include a stretch of the LNWR railway, Colwyn Bay Hotel, St. John's Church, Rydal Mount, Ratonagh, Penrhos College, St. Joseph's RC Church, Bryn Euryn, Llys Euryn, Glan-y-wern, tramway, Walshaw, etc. On the reverse we include adjacent sheet 3.04 which extends coverage eastward to include the station, Victoria Pier and Promenade.

Map of Moss Valley & Gwersyllt 1909

This detailed map covers a busy area north of Wrexham, with several railways and communities shown. Coverage stretches from Pentre eastward to Fishpond Wood, and from Summer Hill southward to Stansty Farm. Communities and areas shown include Cerni, Pentre, Pentre Isaf, Brynteg, Pool Mouth, Little Mountain, Summer Hill, Wheatsheaf, Glanllyn. The Moss Valley runs up the western side of the map. Railways include stretches of the GWR Moss Valley Branch with Moss Halt, GWR Ffrwd Branch, GCR Westminster Colliery Branch, GWR Wheatsheaf Branch (part shown disused), GCR Brymbo Branch, and GCR line with Gwersyllt station. Other features include Gwersyllt Colliery, Holy Trinity church, The Wauns, Gwersyllt Hill, Westminster Colliery, St. Paul's church, Moss Quarry, other quarries, etc. On the reverse we include directories of Gwersyllt and Broughton.

Map of Oswestry 1901

This detailed map is one of two maps which we publish of Oswestry/Croesoswallt, and shows the northern section of the town. A main feature on this map is the Cambrian Works (Locomotive & Wagon), and the two Stations for the GWR and the Cambrian Railway, one of these being on Oswald Road. Other features include Cottage Hospital, Horse Market and the Saw Mill. The map goes as far north to include Oldport and Oakhurst. On the reverse of the map we include a commercial directory (A-M) which concludes on the Oswestry (South) map.

Map of Ruthin 1910

This detailed map covers the small market town and borough of Ruthin. Features include the town centre, Mineral Water Works, Ruthin Castle, railway and station, Well Street, Workhouse, auction mart, Grammar School, Pont Howkin. The map extends west along Clwyd Street and Mwrog Street to Llanfwrog and St. Mwrog's church. Part of Castle Park is included. The River Clwyd runs south-north through the map. On the reverse we include an "Alphabetical Arrangement of Residents, Traders and Others" from an 1890 directory.

This detailed map is our main title for Wrexham. It covers most of the town centre, with coverage stretching from Bradley Road eastward to The Dunks and Hafod-y-Wern, and from Grosvenor Road southward to King's Mills. Features include Central station, St. Giles Church, Hope Street, High Street, Island Green Brewery, St. Mark's Church, Lager Beer Works, Infirmary, Cobden Mill, tramways, Victoria Schools, gasworks, Beast Market, St. David's Church, Cambrian Brewery, Infantry Barracks, Whitegate Farm, Dunks Farm, Kingsmills Bridge, Kingsmills Brick Works, Abenbury Brick Works, Cambrian Leather Works, Holt Road Depot etc. We include extracts from a contemporary trade directory on the reverse.
